The Do's And Don'ts Of Vaping While Traveling

When you’re new to vaping, whether you have previously smoked cigarettes or not, it goes without saying that you will have a lot to learn. Whilst the majority of people will research into the best e-cigarettes to purchase or the right e-juice flavours to choose, not many will think of looking into the rules and regulations surrounding vaping, both here in Dublin but also across the UK and worldwide. There is no denying that expanding your knowledge in this regard isn’t only beneficial, but it can prevent you from breaking any laws in foreign countries.

Currently, here in Ireland, there is no legislation to prohibit the use of e-cigarettes or vapes in a public place simply because the devices produce vapour not smoke. However, you may find that some places, such as pubs or music venues, may ban the use of vaping products on their premises. Anyone new to vaping should know that this isn’t necessarily the case worldwide and many counties have their own rules regarding vaping. So, if you’re planning a trip abroad and you’re looking for some more information, here are the basics you need to know.

Vaping in a foreign country

Whenever you book a holiday, it is essential to check before you travel whether the place you’re flying into has specific rules and laws regarding vapes. You may find that some places won’t even allow you to enter the country with your e-cigarette or e-liquid, the last thing you want to do is pack your vape and start your trip off on the wrong foot.

It should be fairly straightforward to find out what your travel destination’s laws are regarding vaping, but ensure you undertake extensive research and only rely on the information given by trusted websites such as government websites. You will find that some places are much stricter than others when it comes to vaping, so make sure you look into this too.

When you have reached your destination, if vaping is legal, make sure you don’t just assume that you can vape anywhere. Similarly to vaping in Dublin, some places will allow vaping indoors, others outdoors and some places won’t allow it at all. If you’re ever unsure about a specific place’s rules when travelling, just ask.

How to pack your vape & E-liquid when travelling

When travelling abroad, the majority of the time you will need to fly and it is common knowledge that some items have very strict rules when travelling on an airplane. As you may have expected, as an electrical device your vape needs to be packed in a certain way and below are some general tips in this regard;

  • For safety reasons, don’t pack your vape in your check-in luggage, keep it in your hand/carry-on luggage.
  • If the battery can be removed from your vape, then do so and put it into a clear plastic case and in ziplock bag. also ensure that it is charged as you may have to turn the device on upon request. Remember they also must be carried in your hand luggage.
  • Be sensible when packing your e-liquids, remember that they will need to be treated like any other liquid when flying.
  • Make sure your tank is empty as the air presser in plane can cause leaking (no one likes sticky fingers)

How Much Liquid can I take with me?

  • 1 liter (1000ml) is the maximum amount of liquid you can take with you but keep in mind that 1 liter liquid allowance also includes creams, toothpaste, aerosol and of course your favourite E-liquid juice.

Whilst this is general advice, it is important to note that all airlines are unique and their rules may differ slightly. So, before you pack your case and head to the airport, always check information regarding packing your vape to eliminate any potential issues. Any rules should be readily available on the airline’s website.
